Multiple banks move to foreclose on Block 37 in Chicago’s Loop!

Posted by ChicagoismynewBlog! on October 21, 2009

Uh oh, looks like Block 37 is headed towards a bit more trouble.  According to this article from the Chicago Tribune, Bank of America and other lenders are looking to foreclose on the retail and transit portions of Block 37 because the developer, Joseph Freed and Associates LLC, has gone $34MM over budget and has now defaulted on its mortgage.  Can we please just get this thing opened up?

Banks move to foreclose on Block 37

Block 37, the Loop parcel that has defied development for decades, has run into financial trouble less than four weeks before its first retail shops were set to open, putting the project’s future in question once again.

Bank of America N.A. and a group of lenders have moved to foreclose on the retail and transit portion of the mixed-use development, claiming Chicago developer Joseph Freed and Associates LLC has exceeded the planned project costs by $34 million and is in default on its mortgage, according to a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court on Monday.

Freed disclosed the dispute on Tuesday, calling the banks’ steps a “misguided action that could halt the project” and warned that if the four-story shopping mall project shuts down now, it “will be near-impossible to restart,” according to a company press release. Freed took over the project, which has gone through many developers over the decades, in April 2007. It is located at 108 N. State Street….

Pretty much what the title says, Chicago was the first city eliminated from the running to host the 2016 Olympics.  I don’t think anyone was expecting to be eliminated first…at least let us last one more round.

1st Eliminated:  Chicago, United States

2nd Eliminated:  Tokyo, Japan

3rd Eliminated:  Madrid, Spain

WINNER & HOST CITY:  Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Update! My move to the @properties team.

Posted by ChicagoismynewBlog! on September 25, 2009

If you’ve taken a look at the “About” page here at ChicagoismynewBlog! you probably read that I work at Belgravia Group’s townhome community, Union Row Townhomes.  As an update, and of course as some nice self promotion, I have decided to join the @properties sales team at their Lincoln Park office, located at 1586 N. Clybourn Avenue.

I would like to start by saying that I have thoroughly enjoyed working on the Belgravia Group team for the past year and I know they’re looking forward to me selling some Belgravia homes to my future clients.  On this new venture in my life of real estate, I am so excited to join the @properties team and I can’t wait to sell my first home…then my first million in sales!  If you or any of your friends/colleagues/family/you get the point, are looking to purchase a home or sell a current home, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

I wish I knew about this…Groucho glasses mark a new record for Chicago.

Posted by ChicagoismynewBlog! on August 25, 2009

So, apparently, before the screening of the classic Marx Brothers movie “Duck Soup” at the Chicago Outdoor Film Festival in Grant Park, 4,436 Chicagoans took part in breaking the world record for largest number of people wearing Groucho Marx glasses at an event.  The previous record took place during a 2007 baseball game in Springfield, Missouri with 4,077 participants.

Back to the grind at ChicagoismynewBlog!

Posted by ChicagoismynewBlog! on August 8, 2009

As of late, I have obviously slacked with updating ChicagoismynewBlog! with up to date posts.  To tell you the truth, I just had to take a small break from updating every day, finding new things to blog about, etc. and it was a nice break let me tell you.  Now, I’m hunkering down and getting back into the swing of things.  Still haven’t visited the…cringe…The Willis Tower Skydeck to see The Ledge but it is on my shortlist of things to do.

I may miss a day or two of updating ChicagoismynewBlog due to my moving  from Lakeview/Lincoln Park to my new homestead in the Fulton River District. I’m going to be pretty busy packing, moving, unpacking, etc. but don’t worry, I shall return with new posts. I already have at least 4 ideas of new posts in my head…and normally that means it’s pretty full.

Remember to keep spreading the word about ChicagoismynewBlog. Update your facebook, myspace, when submitting a comment, I would love it if you included ChicagoismynewBlog’s URL at the bottom!  Thanks to everyone.
