PROPOSAL ALERT! Grand Imperial Hotel heading Chinatown’s expansion.

Posted by ChicagoismynewBlog! on May 19, 2009

The Grand Imperial Hotel, located at 2014-2126 S. Clark Street, is a 15 story hotel-condominium tower proposed for Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood.  With 170 rooms, the Grand Imperial Hotel had an original opening set for May 2010 but recently, the developer See Wong stated that the development is on hold due to the credit crunch.  According to Best Chicago Condos, the Grand Imperial Hotel will have 6K square feet of lower level retail space as well as a 7K square foot restaurant planned for the hotel’s 15th floor.

I really hope this project gets built once the credit crunch diminishes because I feel like Chinatown desperately needs a major development like this.  Plus, I am hopeful that the Asian style architecture will set a bar for future development in Chinatown because a lot of development that is taking place seems a bit bland.
